Ideologies Clash in Portland

There was a major clash between supporters of a rightwing candidate and the infamous Antifa. The rightwing supporters were a part of the far right group called Patriot Prayer who has a candidate running for Senate called Joey Gibson. They had a permit to march in downtown Portland but were met with resistance by Antifa. Several people were hurt and taken to the hospital with one in serious but non-life-threatening condition. There is footage of the clash and arrest have been made but it’s hard to see who started it but from some comments on the video online, there was a projectile thrown at the far-right supporters which made them rush towards Antifa sparking the battle. The police who were there in full force broke up the fight and declared it a riot while dispersing the crowds were gas and rubber bullets. Regardless of the catalyst, this is yet another example of how polarized American politics have become and as the days go on, expect to see more clashes like this and major protest in general especially as we approach the midterms and get close to confirming the next Supreme Court Judge.
