A major offensive is currently brewing in Damascus. The area, in particular, is the Eastern Ghouta region which is the last major rebel stronghold in Damascus the capital of Syria with the exception of the Yarmouk camp which is currently being contested by Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Syrian forces particularly the Tiger Forces which is a special operations unit created specifically for the Syrian civil war and are commanded by Suheil al-Hassan are battle hardened and have taken part in many major operations throughout the war. Al-Qaeda and friends have control of this region and recently Syrian troops have shelled the area with intense bombardments from Russian and Syrian planes and the rebels have shelled back with many civilians being killed in the crossfire. It's worth noting this operation is a part of Assad’s strategy to mop up the rest of the rebel enclaves that are left.
