I feel as though this has gone too far.....
American citizens are periodically having to lose their lives to these random (mainly mass) shootings. Something really needs to change. Congress is doing the equivalent of... When you do something wrong to a friend and there's no easy way to fix it. BUT you HAVE to do something about this. You need to either take them away, add security in more places, or train enough people to be efficient with them to the point where we shouldn't be worried about large shootings.
Here are my propositions for how we could fix this issue of mass terror and panic.
Point One.
We ban any gun that is registered over a certain caliber. I personally think that we don't need anything in our homes any larger than a shotgun. Handguns and shotguns can obviously be modified to hold more ammunition than needed for recreational shooting, but it doesn't change the fact that people are getting their hands on larger rifles and fully automatic weapons. You don't see people taking a 12 gauge sawed-off shotgun into school shootings, or even mass shootings. You don't even see fully automatic shotguns because they're a pain in the ass to reload. I have a semi automatic shotgun in my bedroom, and it takes at least 30 seconds to load in a few shells, and it really isn't that hard.
Same thing with handguns. It takes forever to load a semi automatic pistol that isn't a revolver. Even revolvers can take a while if you don't have proper training and equipment. You can buy extended magazines for handguns, but how many of those could you carry into a building before you're out? I know this isn't a very good argument for handguns due to the fact that they're easier to conceal than just about anything. But that brings me to my second point.
Point two.
We need to increase security across the nation. Think about it. We could have more jobs. More people providing support to our communities. More people trained in something that could eventually become a career in security/private security. Maybe even the armed forces! Think about it. If you plan on shooting up a public location, and the doors aren't locked, how would you feel if you walked up to the front door with your rifle out, and immediately saw metal detectors and a few armed guards waiting for someone like you? It would make me shit myself if I did something like that! People underestimate security guards, but let me tell you this. When I was in Junior High, our doors to the school were locked, and we had I think two police officers assigned to our school. No one EVER fucked with them. They carried handguns, mace, the night stick, and all of their other equipment. I actually remember someone getting in trouble, and had to be tackled and handcuffed for assaulting another student.
Point Three.
This is probably the least favorite of mine. Train more people on how to use them. Now... I understand that not everyone will be good/efficient at using a firearm, but it's not impossible. It's quite simple. Every few months HR or a counselor can come by and give everyone an examination based on moral standards and relative issues that could occur. If you don't pass the review, you don't get your firearm. If you do, you may still keep it just in case.
Now, I know some of these are pretty far stretched, but SOMETHING has to be done! Most of congress (including state governments) are just holding their dicks in their hands (vaginas too) about how to address this...
SOMEONE HAS TO PLAY THE BAD GUY HERE. EITHER TAKE THEM AWAY, INCREASE SECURITY, OR TRAIN MORE CIVILIANS ON HOW TO USE THEM. This has gone on for WAY too long, and I feel the need to express my opinion on this.
I saw this video/interview of a student there at the florida shooting on valentine's day, and she was going on about how 'she' lost her friends and favorite teacher... I'm not going to disagree with her for a second, but I went a little deeper than that... Let me lay this idea on you...
WE ALL lost someone today. We lost an American life... Many American lives... We all lost a teacher, and many young adolescents who haven't even had a chance to live out their lives... We have all lost unknown potential and it's impossible to gain it back... We need to start thinking as Americans and how to make our country a better place. I hope more of my friends and family stand up for not just their OPINIONS... but for what they KNOW will make America a better place...
