Al-Qaeda’s Group for Support of Islam and Muslims in the Sahel recently provided proof of life for Gloria Cecilia Narvaez, a Columbian Nun who was captured last year. The video that was released attacks the Pope and states the reason she was captured was for preaching about Christianity in the region. The formation of this group is the result of many local terror cells getting together and forming a single terrorist unit. Those groups that came together were Ansar Dine ,MUJAO, AQIM’s, Sahara Branch, and Macina Liberation. They have conducted terrorist attacks in the past regionally but they are on the verge of being opposed. The Sahel G5 comprising of Mali, Mauritania, Chad, Niger and Burkina Faso are planning on mustering joined forces to effectively combat the group. The operation will be supported by the French and will be completed in phases. Maybe in the process, they will be able to rescue this poor lady too.
