What a pleasant surprise coming off the heels of the Black Panther Hollywood premier we get our first official trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp and I must say I’m looking forward to this goofy follow up to 2015’s Ant-Man.
What I liked about the first film was its less serious tone than the other Marvel movies are plagued with. The world can’t be in peril every film and the microscopic conflict in the last movie was perfect to me and cleverly executed.
Ant-Man and The Wasp seems to be no different, taking place after the events of Captain America: Civil War with Scott Lang being released from The Raft (High-security prison made by Stark Industries in conjunction with S.H.E.I.L.D to house high-level threats to the planet) and placed under house arrest under the watchful eye of the FBI. Now if you’ve watched any of these movies you’ll know that this isn’t going to be sufficient to keep a man who can shrink to the size of an ant contained.
Scott and Hope are going out on another adventure together except this time Hope has her own shrinking ExoSuit like Scott (And her mother previously) in the form of The Wasp suit. (The codename was also inherited from her mother Janet Van Dyne.)
This being a superhero film you have to have some sort of villain to drive the action into motion and here we enter Ghost who we know the bare minimum about and are only shown her mask. (Quite frankly I try to keep as many details about a movie out of my sight until I go see it, the mystery is a turn on for me. lol)
Also joining the cast this time around is Lawrence Fishburn who if you’ll remember recently played Perry White the Chief Editor of the Daily Planet in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Seeing one character jump from one character to the next in the MCU isn’t anything new as both Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan both portrayed a version of Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch to now playing Captain America and Erik Killmonger respectively. (Please Marvel have both of these characters meet up and make a small joke about being hot under the collar or throw a joke at the new Human Torch when he’s introduced, ME AND JONATHAN NEED CLOSURE!)
Apparently ole Larry Fish wanted to come over to the Marvel side and he picked a good time to crossover as this gravy train isn’t stopping anytime soon. (I still hold out hope for the DCU, I’m an optimist)
Michael Pena returns as the major comic relief character although he wasn’t able to inject the film with his amazing improvised performance like the first film but let’s hope he gets at least one scene like he did in the last film.
I’m excited about this film, maybe not as much as Black Panther but I definitely want to see this once it drops, the scene at the end of the trailer with Wasp dodging the knives was dope and a great show of the characters differences from Ant-Man.
Ant-Man and The Wasp is set to release in July of 2018 with no concrete date as of right now.
