My goodness.
3 Vs 3 matches at hyper speeds. Colorful, intense, beautifully animated cutscenes. A roster of fan favorites, the ability to watch the day’s best matches, destructible environments, the list could keep on going with every box that DBFZ masterfully checks off. This is the fighting game that is going to take E-sports by storm. Releasing this Thursday, the 25th (at Gamestop starting at 9 pm) DBFZ is set to take the throne of king of fighters, but thankfully for those who needed to scratch that itch we were all recently given a chance to take it for a whirl with the Open Beta. Hopefully you caught that while it was running, but if not, we can catch you up!

Dragon Ball Fighter Z is a 3 vs 3 fighter, akin to Marvel Vs Capcom, featuring mid-combat tag outs, assist attacks and very awesome special cutscene combos. My favorite scene so far was a combo attack with Android 18 and Krillin ending in a mighty combined Ki Blast. Fighting is the standard light, heavy, and special attack affair, with Dragon Ball flair added to great effect. Instant transmission adds a level of speed unmatched in fellow fighting games. A fight can quickly start as a ground fight, move to the air, and devolve into a mess of blurs as you blast and punch around the carefully detailed maps.

Speaking of the environment, DBFZ did not disappoint, watching Namek’s skies darken and oddly vibrant world crumble to a dying lava covered planet due to your fighting is a spectacle I doubt will get old anytime soon. Finishing an opponent in certain ways can also trigger world destroying cutscenes. Watching Goku Finish Frieza off with a spirit bomb makes me feel some type of way I can’t put on paper.

The roster of playable characters for the Beta is shockingly extensive, boasting the likes of Android 18, Beerus, Frieza, Kid Buu, Krillin, Nappa, Perfect Cell, Piccolo, SSJ Goku, SSJ Vegeta, Ultimate Gohan. With the Ample amount of characters spanning the series, we can be sure to expect a lot of fighters to control when the full game launches.
As of the time of writing this preview we have 5 days left. 5 days to twiddle thumbs before engaging in what will hopefully be the fighting game to finally end all fighting games. FiendFix will be holding an open tournament Friday the 26th and a full review will be soon to follow! Stay tuned and be sure to check out Fiendfix.com in the meantime for tons of other great articles. If you want to Face me on PS4 be sure to add LeftFootGreen.
