Protests Leave Iran's Future Uncertain

We start 2018 off with social turmoil in Iran with people in the streets protesting in anger over the economic conditions and a wanted end to the clerical dictatorship in addition to many other grievances. If you remember correctly in 2009 the green movement protested disputing the elections results that led to deaths in the streets. The regime had the upper hand and eventually put the rioting down. Now, this time, as you can see unlike the last time which was more organized and structured, this movement is leaderless and the Ayatollah is already blaming foreigners for the violence which has already killed over a dozen and has led to hundreds of arrest. Armed protesters have been able to kill a revolutionary guard soldier and have been using hunting rifles which are popular in the countryside to attack certain police stations and military base to no avail. Where we go from here is unknown because if you ask me I don’t feel that this will lead to an overthrow of the government, however, it is interesting to watch the protest pick up steam because if a brutal crackdown emerges and hundreds are killed then we may have a different ballgame. But, until the armed forces start rebelling I don’t see this going anywhere.
