Pervs or Pedophiles

It seems everywhere you turn, a new frightening allegation against your favorite television personality, movie star, or even politician has you losing all hope in humanity. We have a president who was discovered on tape to be admitting to sexual misconduct and what some might call assault. Although the evidence was uncovered before the election, it didn’t stop him from being placed in arguably the most powerful position in the world. He has since been accused by numerous other women of similar accusation and is currently fighting several lawsuits in regards to the matters. He has denied the women’s accounts of their encounters and remains adamant about his innocence even though there is plenty of evidence to prove otherwise. Democratic Senator Al Franken resigned last week amid sexual misconduct allegations even though he says that he remembers most of the encounters with his accusers differently. The Democrats seem to want to take the moral high ground in contrast to their Republican counterparts, who have staunchly stood behind their Senate nominee Roy Moore who stands accused of inappropriate relationships with underage girls. Franken unlike Moore has chosen not to attempt to defame or discredit his accusers and decided to leave his Senate seat on his own. Moore, on the other hand, has gained unwavering support from white female voters which has pointed to the countries long history of misogyny that it appears they (white adult females) have adopted. In fact, the polls show that Moore and his rival Doug Jones are neck and neck in the polls which gives the impression that the voters really don’t care about the allegations against him. That, in itself, is disturbing. The investigation of powerful movie producer Harvey Weinstein almost seemed to spearhead the nationwide purge of sexual predators and deviants that have run wild in Hollywood for decades. Although he was neither the first nor the last in the long line of men in the entertainment industry who has taken advantage of their influential positions, some might say he was the most newsworthy of the ever growing bunch. Matt Lauer of the Today’s show was brought to light as being another who used his powers for evil as well as dozens of others who have violated the trust that was once bestowed upon them. It seems this perverse way of intimidation and wielding one's influence has penetrated every aspect of our society. With so many new developments coming out every day it makes you wonder how deep this epidemic is truly rooted. The part that is most amusing to me is that there have been people who have come forward for years and they were widely ignored. Now that their stories have been validated and their claims don’t seem so farfetched now, I wonder if they will get the closure that they have been searching for.
