I must say that I am thoroughly surprised to see that Capcom gives a damn about one of their most beloved franchises as 2018 marks 30 years of the Blue Bomber, MegaMan's debut on the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
Now I will admit that I myself am not the biggest MegaMan fan as I hadn't really played most of the classic games but I am a FAN of the series gameplay if that makes any sense?
It's been 7 years since we had a main entry in the series since MegaMan 10 dropped back on March 1st of 2010 after a revival of the series which fans at the time were rejoicing heavily over because of the lack of love for the character on Capcom's part.
For the most part Capcom has been focusing on it's current intellectual properties such as Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and various other lucrative ventures so it only makes zense for them to pump out games in those series as MegaMan for a time would seem niche in a world where 3D shooters were dominating the world and making the big bucks.
It got so bad that the original character designer and longtime producer on the series Keiji Inafune left Capcom in 2010 to found his own company Level-5 Comcept and made a spiritual successor to the MegaMan series in 2016's Mighty No. 9. (Which had a rocky Kickstarter fueled development and ended up being critically panned by critics and fans)
Despite that lack of support from Capcom in a post first person shooter world, the mid 2010's was inundated with some great old school platformers like Shovel Knight and many other 8bit inspired titles.
I'm very happy that MegaMan is getting the treatment a 30 year old veteran series deserves and I'm actually going to give this one try!
If you would like to jump into the series now is a great time as Capcom has released a few collections of the original MegaMan series for purchase to get you in the mood for the new game.
Enjoy!
