Some months back I did a story on Corrine Brown who was on trial for corruption over her fraudulent charity which she used for personal gains. Well, now I have an update on her legal woes, she was just sentenced to 5 years for those crimes. Brown was convicted by a federal jury in May on 18 of the 22 charges against her, which included fraud and lying on her tax returns and congressional financial disclosures. These thousands of dollars were used for lavish parties and shopping excursions. Ronnie Simmons, Brown's former chief of staff was given four years in prison, followed by three years of probation, and Carla Wiley, One Door's (charity) executive director received a one-year and nine-month sentence followed by three years of probation. They all will report to prison in January, and even though I personally feel that the sentencing in all of the cases was too light, it shows that no one is above the law, not even a U.S. politician...at least in this case.
