Why leaving the Iran Deal is Asinine

As you already know (or if this is brand new to you), Trump has decertified the Iranian nuclear deal basically meaning we are still in the negotiations but it would be booted to congress to come up with a better deal but they only have 90 days to do so. According to the Trump administration the current deal is a bad deal and it needs to be tighter on Iran and include such restrictions as terrorism support and missile tests. The argument is that the deal is not working and Iran continues to do these things unabated. This is a straw man argument because the deal was never meant to include provisions against those things. The ramifications for this is immense and I feel I need to explain it better so people can have a more clear understanding on why this is stupid and not knowledge based. This deal had the support of China and Russia and by doing it we prevented Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. According even to the Trump administration as with the UN they are abiding with the current deal and not in violation. So let’s say we pull out, also there’s talks of designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization as well by the way. Not only will this put us on a North Korea esque war path Iran has thousands upon thousands of foreign fighters from across the Middle East and Southeast Asia fighting in Syria and Iraq. Not to mention the militias like the paramilitary groups in Iraq and then there’s Hezbollah. Iran has already said they would retaliate militarily if that designation goes into effect and the havoc they can cause against American interest is inconceivable. Our military AND embassies AND consulates would be in danger. But Trump doesn’t fully understand this because all he wants to do is get rid of everything Obama has accomplish and this is one of Obama’s accomplishments that both sides should agree on. To punt this to a congress that is already struggling to get things done is crazy enough but even if they agree it’s good, Trump still can scrap it. Just like with the climate change agreement, Trump fails to grasp the consequences of his actions or even an understanding of what he is going against and the results are not beneficial for America or the World in general.
