UN envoy Ghassan Salame recently unveiled a plan at the UN to provide a road map for Libya to get back on its feet. This is a golden opportunity for Libya because in recent times Libya has seen violence in the region dramatically decrease with the exception of a few clashes. The ceasefire between the GNA and Haftar forces really helped out a lot as it helped lay out the foundation for this dialogue. If all goes well Libya might just have a shot at peace. Now, the way the UN plan is going to work is there will be amendments made to Libyan agreement which would then be brought forth to a national conference which would include all marginalized groups. Then the drafting of a constitution will be made for referendum and a date will be set for parliamentary and presidential elections ushering in a new government for the people. If Khalifa Haftar and the GNA which is led by Fayez al-Sarraj can come together and form and unite the militias into a fighting force, then we can have a unified Libya that gets back on its feet and begins to thrive again.
