Yemeni Rifts

There is a major rift going on in the Saleh-Houthi alliance lately that many are not reporting on. Saleh for those that don’t know use to rule Yemen until the Arab spring ousted him in 2012 however, after his vice president Hadi took over for him he planned a coup with the Houthi rebels which started the civil war you see today. There is a power struggle between the two where both sides are accusing the other of corruption and the Houthis have fired Saleh allies in the military and out the military. Faris Al-Beel, a political analyst and college professor said it best when he said “What is happening in Sanaa at the moment is a power struggle between different ideologies. While the Houthis aim to seize power based on historic and religious references that restrict power to their family, Saleh's ideology is based on taking revenge and restoring power mostly with political tactics”. And that pretty much sums up the reason for the alliance. But this is significant because there may be a large enough rift that Saleh helps Hadi retake the country with a promise that he will gain some power in the government. This is one conflict that I like to call the Forgotten War so keep a close eye on.
