Trump’s Plan For Afghanistan

Trump has approved a plan that would extend the war in Afghanistan by steeping up military support but left out specifics in the strategy according to Pentagon insiders. America is now looking to add 4,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Now this is interesting because Trump criticized the Afghan war as unwinnable and even contemplated a full withdrawal. Now, I previously did an article on Afghanistan where I stated that in my opinion there should not be any more troop increases in the area and that it would probably be even better to just withdraw. However, my view has changed since then on this matter and this in my opinion is what Trump should’ve done instead. Approve of the 4,000 troop increase but state that there will be a full withdrawal by 2020. The one problem that remains however is heaving a clear path to a timely exit which has been a problem that both past president’s and Trump and have struggled with. The current strategy being used is to not set deadline which only helps embolden the enemy to wait it out. Sure that may have worked in 2002 but we're almost 20 years into this thing now. That’s literally two decades and three presidencies. It’s unacceptable and by setting a deadline, you are basically giving the Pentagon what they say they need but letting them know this is it and there will be no more perpetual war. In my opinion, if NATO can’t get it right by 2020 then they never will.
