The Charlottesville Incident

Most of you already know about this story but just in case you missed it, there was a rally last Friday night organized by white supremacist carrying tiki torches at the University of Virginia. This was all due to the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue in the area. But Saturday there was another rally in the college town and that’s when a scuffle between the white supremacist and the counter-protesters that included black lives matter and antifa occurred. Sadly In the end two police pilots died in a helicopter crash accident and a young woman was killed when a Neo Nazi sympathizer named James Alex Fields rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters killing the young woman and injuring many others. Since this has occurred President Trump is taking a lot of heat for stating that he condemns "both sides" without specifically condemning the racist and invoking false equivalency. Following the backlash to his response from many across both aisles of the political spectrum, he decided to speak out again and the justice department is investigating the attack. What occurred on Friday and Saturday is sad and disturbing. Yes there was violence on both sides with the fist fights but to leave it at that after there was also a car ramming attack that left someone killed as if both sides were utilizing cars and running over people is absurd. Especially when we know this is the same president that loves to take to twitter to make statements on radical Islam when a Islamic terrorist does something. But when it’s a white conservative terrorist then nothing is said and if there is, it’s vague and you have to drag him kicking and screaming for a proper statement condemning racism and white supremacy. Keep in mind this is not just nitpicking when you have racist groups who adore you. When that happens, you need to come out and make a bold statement and when you are done; the racist shall know where you stand. When you have white supremacist leaders stating god bless Trump and praising him after a speech on their violence that means you have failed in your messaging and it’s not clear.
It boggles my mind that this president continues to get backlash from things that should be simple to tackle like when you go to a boy scouts event, don’t attack your political rivals and talk about sexy yacht parties. When you attend a law enforcement event don’t make jokes about police brutality especially with the tensions that exist in the country in relation to that and when white supremacist kill innocent people and hold rallies of hate claiming you represent their ideals, don’t act like it’s all 50/50 when we all know if it had been an Islamic terror attack, you would’ve took to twitter to condemn it and used it as an example for a travel ban. It’s obvious he’s hesitant because that’s a chunk of his base even if all his supporters aren’t like that. The white power crowds are despicable and I feel it’s absurd even to protest against them. They aren’t even worth it and the people who started fighting with them like the antifa/blm groups are just as dumb in my opinion because that’s exactly what they want, that’s why they come into a progressive town with that type of bigotry. The best thing to do is let them play dress up and be ignorant because they have already lost because whether they like it or not, we aren’t going back to the “good old days” where they get to oppress minorities and have all the power. We’re a changing world and people like them will go to their grave opposing any type of racial harmony and diversification in America.
