Trump Jr.'s Meeting

When it comes to lies in the Trump family, the apple doesn’t fall that far from the tree. Trump Jr. recently got in trouble for lying about the contents of a meeting and now he has to testify before a Senate Panel next week in what seems to be a closed door meeting. The meeting in question occurred late last year and Trump Jr. lied at first stating that the meeting was about adoption but then changed the story and admitted that the meeting was about opposition research on Hillary Clinton and the person he was supposed to meet was apparently a Russian attorney. After getting the scoop that the New York Times was going to be publishing the full email of the meeting setup, he beat them to it and posted it on twitter.
Now this story has many details and is constantly being updated, but here’s my take. At this point we now know there were more people at the meeting than previously thought. Trump Jr. like many in the Trump administration continue to have amnesia when meeting with Russians is questioned and brushes the meeting off as nothing too important with nothing worth remembering. However, the email situation is disturbing to me at least. While he claims nothing came of the meeting, the fact that Rob Goldstone, an associate of his who arranged the meeting stated it was from the Russia government and Trump Jr. agreed to it means he was willing to collude with a foreign government for the information. That’s interesting and something that Robert Muller the special prosecutor investigating all of this wants to know more about since he told the White House to preserve all documents related to the meeting. It’s quite possible that nothing else may be in the works here and in the broad sense the investigation may not reveal no direct collusion at all between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. I understand that’s not too popular in the establishment circles but we have to be reasonable here.
This meeting is interesting and there should be more digging into it but you have to connect the attendants in that meeting back to the Kremlin and that is going to be hard because they are denying links to it. Now, the attempt to collude may have some legal consequences, I’m not sure but I would think it would be similar to a drug sting operation or a ploy to trap a child predator however I don’t know the laws associated with these particular situation and how the're handled. But something else happen that I want to talk about and that’s what Trump Sr. said in the New York Times. He stated that Muller’s elite prosecutor team has conflict of interest and warned him about investigating his financial dealings. Well Robert Mueller crossed that line because Trump’s financial ties are of significant focus. This right here is very important because while there might not be direct collusion with the government on hacking or campaign assistance, there may be shady or even illegal business ties with the Russians that still may put Trump in legal trouble. In my opinion, if anything is found it may be that; which could be why Trump doesn’t want him probing around. It seems every month there’s another twist in this White House drama and I highly doubt it’s stopping anytime soon.
