TrumpCare Dies Again

So once again the republicans have failed to pass the disastrous Trumpcare this week after they failed to gather the needed votes. The plan was a disaster as it destroys Planned Parenthood funding, raises premiums, gives tax cuts to the rich, and massively cuts Medicaid. Many republicans opposed the bill for various reasons for example Rand Paul opposed it because it wasn’t draconian enough and Susan Collins couldn’t support it because of the Medicaid cuts. Either way I’m glad it didn’t pass, and now there’s talk of a repeal vote that Mitch McConnell wants to bring to the floor. However, that's also running into trouble because the Senate parliamentarian has stated that nearly a dozen key provisions of GOP repeal legislation violate special procedural rules that Republicans are using to pass their bill. Basically the republicans in the Senate are desperately running out of options and are trying their best to come up with a win so they can claim victory and have something to place on the President's desk.

Some see a repeal vote and a start from scratch strategy as a good play by Trump who adamantly proposed the idea. But Let me explain why this strategy is asinine in my opinion. People like Dilbert creator Scott Adams believes Trump is playing 3 dimensional chess where it seems like he’s foolish but he’s actually a genius and he also believes he’s got this healthcare thing on lock down. Well let me quote Trump in an interview with the New York Times on preexisting conditions and the toughness of removing entitlements.” Because politically, you can’t give it away. So pre-existing conditions are a tough deal. Because you are basically saying from the moment the insurance, you’re 21 years old, you start working and you’re paying $12 a year for insurance, and by the time you’re 70, you get a nice plan. Here’s something where you walk up and say, “I want my insurance.” It’s a very tough deal, but it is something that we’re doing a good job of”. Please point me to the health insurance plan that’s 12 dollars a year. Some say he’s confusing life insurance with health insurance but even then, the conversations is about healthcare. But according to Trump apologists, that’s what he wants you to think, because he actually does know what the hell he’s talking about and is allowing the republicans to fail so both parties can come together for this perfect healthcare plan. In what alternative universe?

We are talking about a Republican party that has literally jumped off the deep end in insanity and had 8 years to get this right but somehow, a repeal vote with a two year deadline is supposed to bring everyone together for what type of healthcare system? Free market BS? Because that’s why we’re here in the first place. You have Democrats where some are supporting single payer (which is inevitable) and some who aren’t but not even trying to hear what the republicans are offering because many if not all don’t want to be seen voting yes on any type of Trumpcare. Then you have a divided republican congress where some support the social safety nets but others don’t so how do you expect to get both of them on board from a start from scratch approach? Even if we did have just Republicans voting yes, we already know it’s not going to be a move to reform healthcare for the better, and just more tax cuts for the rich at the expense of the poor if it does pass. We have to wait and see what happens but I am not optimistic about a great healthcare reform bill coming from a Republican controlled Congress and a Corporatist Elitist in the White House.
