Spider-man: Homecoming Review- Second Opinion (Movie Review)

Before I get started, I wanna say I hate every time a Superhero movie comes out critics and fans are always like "Best Superhero movie to date" or "One of the greatest films of the year". Cut the crap! With that being said Spider-Man: Homecoming was fun to watch, of course people are gonna love it, its an exciting movie. I'm one of the biggest web slinger fans on the planet but honestly I'm a little tired of seeing ol' Peter on the big screen. Was I a fan of this movie?... Yea I was, at least the second half of the movie.

At first Spider-Man: Homecoming felt like a typical Marvel movie with jokes, kid stuff, the bad guy this and bad guy that and then took a crazy turn on the second half of the movie. It got a little more interesting. I shall explain later.

The first half of the movie feels very Diary of a Wimpy Kid-ish, which isn't necessarily a bad thing its just a lot of school stuff. Luckily it skips all the origin story stuff and gets straight to the point. Shows us who his best friends is, who hates him, and who he has a crush on (school stuff). Let me elaborate on that.

I like his best friend, Ned. Ned is the one that brings a lot of the humor (along with Happy Hogan) in this movie. He reminds me of Ganke (from Ultimate Spider-Man 2011). Let's talk about the Flash Thompson, the bully.... He sucks. Hes lame, the writers failed at attempting to make him funny. In my opinion hes absolutely no threat to Peter Parker, he competes with him knowledge wise rather then being a sports jock. Now I'm going to talk about the love interest, or the crush.... Unattractive, boring, unimportant and irrelevant. She's a girl named Liz (played by Laura Harrier), she somewhat becomes somebody in the second half but still not that important. It's safe to say she probably wont be showing up in other movies though and another female lead is hinted at.

So Let's talk about who I do like. Aunt May, Tony Stark who is the father figure to Peter in this movie, and I actually like Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes (aka Vulture). The suit is a little too much, but the character himself is a great villain. The first half the movie he's this "let's go steal some stuff" typical bad guy but gets real personal in the 2nd half of the film... And let me tell you he does not play. There's really only one villain in this movie, The Shocker is really just a henchman, two characters are actually represented as Shocker in this movie. They're cool I guess, for what they are. How can I forget Peter Parker, I like Peter in this movie. He's fun and of course he's really nerdy and a dork but has this I don't want to go to school I want to save the world mentality, but he's really smart. However though the movie gives characters too many hints about Peter's alter ego... Are they really that stupid?

A tiny amount of things about the suit designed bugged me. I don't like how Peter talks to the suit, his suit has an A.I. built into it and I don't like it. I know Stark made it and people would think it's cool but keep that stuff for Iron Man. I mean this suit is very high tech, he has all kinds of gadgets like he has some kind of utility belt. The spider on his chest actually comes off the suit and flies around and its just weird to me. Now I did love that Scarlett Spider looking suit in the movie (another thing appears in the 2nd half of the movie), nothing fancy about it though.

Overall it's a cool movie with some cheesy characters and corny jokes and some dope action sequences. The action sequences and some of the writing in the 2nd half saved this movie a lot in my opinion. The only thing I would say I didn't like about the 2nd half is that they kind of linked 2 characters to try and make one of them more important but it didn't work for me. The movie gets a low B for me, like i said it's a fun movie it's definitely better then the Amazing Spider-man series. If you're a Spider-Man fan it's your duty to watch it, you might actually enjoy it. Your kids would like. I don't recommend it for a date movie or whatever, but its cool for what it is. This movie does set up a sequel of course and a new villain (Hint: look at the tattoo on Michael Mando's neck, that's what villain hes playing).

Score: 4/5
