CNN’s Credibility Problem

CNN this week fired three CNN employees Thomas Frank, Eric Lichtblau, and Lex Haris because of some investigative work that they did that heavily relied on an "anonymous" source in which the information turned out to be fake news. The story that was published was about a Russian investment fund with links to Trump officials that were supposedly being investigated by congress. The person they linked it to was Anthony Scarramucci who was a part of the Trump campaign. The editorial processes were not followed and CNN issued an apology to Scarramucci. But it doesn’t stop there, there are two Project Veritas videos released by James O' Keefe, one talking to a CNN producer and another to Van Jones with both pretty much dismissing CNN’s Russian coverage as BS or a "nothing burger" as Van Jones put it. With that being said Van Jones has responded by stating his words were taking out of context and the video was edited for propaganda reasons.
My take is this; I applaud CNN for firing these individuals, however this represents the problem with corporate media. They become so quick to jump on sensational stories instead of reporting on real issues. That’s not to say every story on CNN is fake news, I wouldn’t go that far. But this obsession with the Russia story is making a lot of people wary and distrustful of the Media if they weren’t all ready. Look, I lean more on the side that maybe some hacking occurred but I’m not sold on collusion. But what I do support is investigations to find out what happened which Robert Mueller is doing right now so we should be patient and wait. That’s not to say there should be zero coverage but if you are so obsessed with the story that you are willing to accept any sources without verifying them, then you are only empowering Trump. Especially when you have these secret videos coming out and the statements on them bashing the coverage. O' keefe is a complete scumbag and a political hack if you know anything about him. He did the fake abortion selling fetuses tape and fake video on ACORN that got the organization shut down. But to have him get one of your producers on tape stating the coverage is only for ratings really put your station's credibility in jeopardy. At the end of the day it’s all for ratings whether the story is true or not. Stories like these are why independent media is beating out cable news and even why we at FiendFix exist. There are many stories to go after Trump on like how he is getting rid of environment protections or how he lied about lowering drug prices. That’s just two, there are many things this disastrous administration is doing that only benefits corporations and the wealthy and not the average American. But that’s not sensational and would require real journalism that the corporate media refuses to want to engage in. So as the media continues to report on non-important stories (Most of trump’s tweets) or inflate stories to make them seem more than what they are, they will continue to be hated and lose viewership to the internet news outlets.
