Unfortunately in London there has been a devastating fire at the Grenfell Tower in Kensington. At this point 79 people are dead and many more are homeless. 68 social housing flats in Kensington, London, are to be made available to survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire. Prime Minister Theresa May has apologized and took full responsible for the state’s failure to deal with the disaster which burned on for 24 hours. One of the victims who died in the fire was 23-year-old Syrian refugee Mohammed Alhajali after being separated from his brother during the fire. Another victim was retired lorry driver Anthony Disson, 65, who died from inhalation of fire fumes. There has been an anti-government protest because of the response to the fire which was slow as the chaotic blaze raged on. People are upset and are looking for answers and more information will be coming out as time goes on.
My opinion is I agree there should be a thorough investigation into how the fire was started. If I had to give my hunch on why this occurred, I would say it was probably due to less regulations and regular maintenance checkups on the building. If that is the cause, then that’s another reason why you need proper regulations and great management especially of public housing buildings like these. This was a sad tragedy and I like many others across the globe are very interested in finding out how this could happen.
