E3 Trailer Trash!!!: Metroid Samus Returns

Boi you do not know how happy and sad I am right now because Metroid is one of my favorite video game franchises and my favorite Nintendo IP next to Legend of Zelda.

Finally we get a 2.5D side scrolling Metroid game from Nintendo after having some missteps with the series in the form of Metroid: Other M and Federation Force and it's nice to see the series go back to it's roots!

From what I can tell is that this game is a remake of the second game in the Metroid series Metroid II: Return of Samus which was released on the original Gameboy on August 26th, 1991 which is great because a lot of people didn't get to play this game in the series with the most revered game being Super Metroid which released on the Super Nintendo on March 19th, 1994 just 3 years after Metroid 2.

Now I'm happy because I've been thinking up my own 2.5D Metroid sidescrolling adventure and it feels good to be right about something but I wanted it to be an entirely new game that takes place after Metroid Fusion which is chronologically the last game in the Metroid timeline at the moment but the fact that we have 2 Metroid games announced this year is amazing in and of itself.

One of the coolest additions to Samus's arsenal this game is a melee counter which allows Samus to knock her enemies away to stun them and critically hit their weak points which is huge because we needed an option for up close encounters as well as some of the up close and personal acrobatics of Other M which were the best parts of that game.

While I am heavily looking forward to this game it does make me sad that they are remaking Metroid 2 because just last year a group of dedicated fans of the series released a phenomenal entry of their own in the form of AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) built from the ground up with the best features of the 2D Metroid entries.

Unfortunately Nintendo has to protect their Intellectual Property so within hours of this team dropping AM2R the Big N hit em with a Cease and Desist along with legal action prompting them to put the project in the trash...........but this is the internet and if you're smart you know once files hit the web they are free game and exist forever so if you want to play that game, I implore you to give it a go, I played it last year and enjoyed the hell out of it. A1 Project

I'm hopeful for this game and can't wait to play it, Nintendo canceled a fan project because they wanted to do it themselves which is understandable.

I still want a sequel to Fusion with Samus eventually going on an adventure with her Fusion suit and hopefully I'll get it or Nintendo calls me to help them with the story.lol

Peace!
