U.S. Rep Corrine Brown was found guilty of 18 out of 22 fraud charges that she took money from a sham charity but she blames her chief of staff Ronnie Simmons and she plans on filing a motion for a new trial. The name of the charity was One Door for Education and she has been funneling money from that charity into her personal account since 1993 according to prosecutors. She’s not going to jail immediately but instead will have to wait up to 90 days before her sentencing. Also other amounts of the money went to luxury boxes for sporting events. The girlfriend of Brown's chief of staff Ronnie Simmons started the scholarship charity for students who wanted to become teachers. But the thing is, only three scholarships were given out amounting to 1,000 dollars or less meaning the rest of the 800,000 that was raised went into the coffers of brown, her chief of staff and the girlfriend Carla Wiley. What is interesting is both of the people who testified against Brown and Mr. Simmons stated that he was told to go to ATMs and deposit the money into Brown’s account. Brown testified in her own defense stating that she was the victim of theft and that she left the finances to her staffers. This just shows how corrupt politics can get and if it's like this at the local level, I can only imagine what’s happening at the national level.
