GHOST, LINKIN PARK, AND OTHER THINGS THAT PISS ME OFF

Greetings again FIENDS!!!! All throughout my news feed on various online publications and social media outlets I have seen many things in the heavy music scene that have really gotten under my skin, and I figured where better to share my thoughts than with all you beautiful free thinking bastards!

GHOST BC
I want to start things off with a band called GHOST BC, or simply Ghost. If you’re not familiar, the band hails from Sweden and is fronted by singer Tobias Forge aka Papa Emeritus, and 5 other “Nameless Ghouls” who are to remain anonymous. They play a unique brand of hard rock, bordering on heavy metal, with a very theatrical stage performance emulating a satanic version of the catholic church. Now I personally enjoy most of their music, its somber and heavy and is perfect for any black mass gathering. However, the band has come under much scrutiny in these past few months, as several former members of the band have come forward and sued Tobais claiming non payment of wages, and goes on to say that when they brought these concerns to Forge, he subsequently fired the entire band. My personal opinion on this whole legal debacle is honestly in favor of the former band. If you employ musicians, especially a band you started and grew with, you should pay them as you would yourself. Otherwise it’s nothing but an ego trip, and then to add the low blow of firing them entirely and continuing the band with studio guys like nothing even happened is frankly a load of bullshit. I think this will be an unfortunate and sad end to a really unique and talented band.

Chester Bennington still whining in 2017
Speaking of grade A fuckery, Chester Bennington and Linkin Park. Gone are the days we would sit in our JNCOS and smoke our parent’s cigarettes that we stole and listen to Crawling on repeat. Hybrid Theory and Meteora will always hold a special place in my heart, and to me every album since just can’t quite compare. Linkin Park however changed their sound in order to grow as a band. I’m ok with that, Metallica did it, plenty of bands did it and though I may not enjoy the noise, I stand behind the decision. Even if, much to the dismay of many an old school fan, they decide to release… a pop album. Featuring a song called Heavy that is anything but that. What I do have an issue with however, is when criticized by your legions of loyal fans, you tell them “Move the fuck on from Hybrid Theory”. You mean your number one best selling album? The album that people compare every single other release to? Then to go on to say to your fans “If you say we sold out Ill punch you in the face.”? WHAT IS THAT?! These are your die hard fans that MADE you who you are! These are your money, the people who love your music so much they spend their hard earned money on your music. Sure you can’t please everyone, nor can you cater entirely to your fans, but you most certainly DO NOT turn your back on them like that. YOU DON’T THREATEN THEM YOU DUMB POMPOUS SHITHEAD!!

Gene Simmons is still gross though
Last thing I want to get into is Mr. Gene Simmons and his comment he’s been making for years, that “ROCK AND ROLL IS DEAD!” This sentiment has been shared by many a rockstar and disavowed by just as many. My take? Rock isn’t dead, it has evolved. Gone are the days of the ‘Music Industry’ and the ‘business’. Its evolved past that, the movement in the streets. What we’re witnessing if you look past the pop coated bullshit is a rise of artists with little to no financial backing, and hardly any budget at all. Coming from poverty and abusive homes and doing something beautiful and passionate with nothing but talent and the technology that moves the world. Take Owl City for example, who never even met each other in person till it was time to tour. I just can’t see the death in any of that. Rock is more alive than ever and is evolving to new heights, if you just look hard enough.
Love and Bruises Fiends!!
