Issa Alien!
So, this is like the 6th? Alien movie to come out? Yea. I have to say once again, that I misjudged the movie based on the trailer. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I didn’t expect to like it. I was wrong again! It was fun, I enjoyed watching the pieces finally come together in a way that makes sense for the overall story line. There’s kind of this feeling at the end of “Oh, okay, I get it”, which is pretty satisfying. I’m not coming at this as an Alien expert, but I have seen all the movies and it may be one of the better ones in all honesty.
There are plenty of eye-catching action and purrty shots that were captivating to look at as the plot unfolded. I am a sucker for space movies cause who doesn’t like seeing space things happen in space? Also, the Xenomorphs in this movie probably have the most menacing look to date. On that front, I won’t say I was disappointed, however that doesn’t quite make up for some of the issues that I did have with the movie. Now, before I begin, I’ll admit this may be a bit nit-picky, but personally, I feel these issues did affected the complete picture. Not detrimental, but we gon address it.
Firstly, there were some cheap ass CGI moments. Like Breh. I was a bit confused because the quality of some of them thangs put the budget of the picture into question. It didn’t ruin the movie, but it was quite fucking noticeable. Also, unlike Alien movies of the past, where you at least gave minimum half a shit about one or more characters, this movie had me actively waiting for people to go because they were just so damn terrible. You really don't know much about anyone as a person other than who their spouse is. What we see of their actions mostly puts them in an unlikable position because we only see them making dumb decisions for even dumber reasons. I’ve said before, there is not a need to overly develop characters that aren’t the focal point of the story. In fact, I will say that development that was done on Walter, David, and the Aliens was okay. I guess what I’m saying is that all 8,12,15 or however many crew members were interchangeable and forgettable for the most part. They only seemed to be there as templates to carry out the story. Maybe that was the idea but eh, could’ve been better. Plus, there seemed to be a lot of shit happening just to fucking happen. Some plot points flowed nicely with the story, but others seemed to be just plain ole bullshit. I don’t expect every movie to be perfect, I just want shit to make sense. As an example without giving too much away, there were a few scenes in which there’s all this hoopla and worry about the ship surviving certain circumstances…and this wasn’t just a quick “Oh hope we’ll make it”, no, this was like minutes of back and forth arguing about the right decision to make because whichever decision they make would have severe consequences. All I’m going to say is that was a wasted and irrelevant plot point that took up more time than it needed. The crew in general just seemed way too incompetent to even be on this mission in the first place. I guess it’ll make a bit more sense if we just accept these people as half-trained civilians from off the street instead of professional scientists/astronauts with years and years of training, then at least their careless mistakes fit poirfectly*. Also, there was this thing that happened at the end and I don’t know if we were supposed to be surprised or if it was… a… twist? Causssseeeeee it wasn’t. It was about as climatic as the ending in Split. Which wasn’t climatic at all. Split was very anticlimactic, as was this. The ending could’ve had a lot more finesse than it did and again, I could be nit-picking but I’m just here to give fax. There’s a lot other stuff that bothered me but there’s also a lot other stuff that I liked.
Is the movie good and worth the watch? Yes, definitely yes.
Does it makes sense and answer questions pertaining to the Alien story line? Also, yas.
Was there silly movie shit that annoyed me and that could’ve not been there or have been done better? Yep.
Should you care about my opinion and trust me on this? Yes because I only speak fax. Pls listen. Thank.
