One step closer

It took a while but it has been completed as the SDF forces backed by America have wrested control of Tabqa city and the nearby dam from ISIS. ISIS withdrew the remainder of its fighters in the final days and this is significant because this area was used as a coordination hub and place to plot attacks abroad. Moving forward, this put the Kurdish led forces within sights of Raqqa city and there’s some controversy involved here because the Trump administration is considering giving heavier weapons to these forces but Turkey is against this because the militia that forms the backbone of the group, the YPG or People’s Protection Units are labeled a terrorist group inside Turkey. It remains to be seen whether Turkey will intervene to stop the advance on Raqqa which would put Turkey and U.S. relations in crisis mode.
