The War that Never Ended

North Korea is a very complex situation and a lot of people don’t know this but we are technically still at war with them since we signed an armistice and not a peace treaty. An armistice is a cessation of hostilities.

North Korea is separated from South Korea by a DMZ (Demilitarized zone) line

There’s also a conference room where communications are held during times of critical conflict so tensions can be eased.

So many people wonder what will happen if violence broke out? Well we hope that doesn’t happen because we would be assured that Seoul the capital of South Korea would be devastated. Why? The reason for this is North Korea artillery is placed in the mountains and it would be hard to actually launch an effective counter strike against them. This gives them enough time to turn Seoul into Aleppo, Syria in a matter of days. But let’s also remember that in 1994 we had an agreement with them on nuclear disarmament under Clinton however that the agreement never was implemented fully. This was mainly due to Bush coming into power instead and offering his own ideas like the one in 2007 where he promised to end the war if North Korea gave up its nuclear program even though they consider it the only deterrent against western aggression.

North Korea believes this even more now especially after seeing what happened to Iraq, Libya and the chaos in Syria. This is a way for them to feel secure. And what about China you may ask? Well there are reports of them helping us in pressuring the North Koreans however there’s a catch that no one is bringing up. We’ve cooperated with the Chinese before previously during the Obama administration. Personally I remain skeptical that China will help because if war breaks out and Pyongyang falls millions of refugees will flood into China and South Korea takes over the north thus increasing U.S. influence in the region. You honestly think China wants that? I don’t think so. So with the failed missile test and Mike Pence visiting the DMZ and threatening North Korea, we just have to wait and see what will happen as the Korean saga continue.
