Russian military involvement in Syria continues to increase the casualty toll with 30 dead now being the official total of civilians lost since 2015. However that may not be the official death toll since Russian law has this info classified as a state secret, and most information is coming from independent reporting. From January to March Russia tallied only 5 deaths but based on evidence collected over time by Reuters, the toll is at 21 since Russia retook Palmyra. One thing to also keep in mind is Russia also employs military contractors to carry out specific missions. This is not out of the ordinary for Russia since it was also done in Ukraine back in 2014 where families are still searching for answers. As the war continues along with the covert ops from the Kremlin, the death toll will only get higher in Syria because it’s showing no signs of abating.
