I’ve talked about Tahrir Al Sham a lot in the past but now I introduce you to its leader Abu Jaber. This guy use to be the general commander for Ahrar Al-sham which is the 3 largest rebel group after ISIS and Tahrir al-sham. It's worth noting that this was done after the killing of the previous leader. He spent time in the infamous Syrian Sednaya Prison where many Salafist jihadist went after being picked up by Syrian security services and there just like Bucca camp in Iraq with ISIS, they use the prison to formed alliances and clandestine networks to be ready to go when they finally get released. It’s also important to note that Al-Qaeda embedded itself into Ahrar Al-sham so Abu Jaber has Al-Qaeda connections. In fact, his military commander in Tahrir al-sham is none other than Abu mohammed al-golani the Al-Qaida affiliated al-nursa front leader which absorbed itself into the Tahrir organization. Tahrir was his new venture after leaving Ahrar al-sham and his new group eventually after absorbing many other groups to become the largest rebel group around now. They have conducted many audacious attacks that I have reported on and they have been pretty effective. But let’s keep this in mind, all of this is a way for Al-Qaida to conceal itself and try to emerge itself in the Syrian revolution to seem more grassroots than a foreign terrorist group coming in to get funding and support. Abu Jaber is the front man to lead that effort now.
