Trumpcare Collapse

Last week was a major legislative defeat for Donald Trump and what makes it even more interesting is that TrumpCare failed because of republican infighting. Paul Ryan, whom Trump trusted to get the job done, failed after delaying the vote on Thursday and then pulling it on Friday with Trump's approval. Most blame goes to Paul Ryan of course because Paul Ryan and the Republicans repealed Obamacare more than 60 times and had years to come up with an actual healthcare plan to be ready to go for Trump. The Tea Party wing of the Republican Party called the Freedom Caucus were the ones who defeated the bill after not compromising and wanting to move it farther to the right. Any constituent of the Republicans must be livid and disgusted at how their party, which has the House, Senate and White House are still unable to pass a bill to actually help the American people and being the reigning party of saying NO! What makes it even worst is they have no one to point fingers at since they needed 0 of Democrat's votes.

However let’s be clear, this is also a defeat for Trump as well. The man who claimed to be the master negotiator and to be able to make the best deals couldn’t deliver. He claimed everyone would be covered and that government would pay for it but he endorsed the plan that throws millions of people out of the healthcare market and raises premiums even higher along with massive tax breaks to the wealthy; that is the opposite of what he ran on and what the people who voted for him wanted. More and more Trump voters have realized that Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are the same thing and are starting to understand what is at stake if they lose it. The reality is he never really had a plan, so that’s why he endorsed the first plan the GOP presented to him and he doesn’t care about the data so that’s why he reject the analysis and numbers and even threatened GOP members with losing their seats if they did not vote on the bill. As we can see none of that worked and now he has to move on to tax reform with a fractious GOP that is even harder to get bills pass.

In my opinion what this country needs is a Medicare for all program similar to what Senator Sanders and other progressives are proposing. But since we know that's not going to happen with a GOP majority, a public option or/and drug importation bill should be proposed in an attempt to gain bipartisan support if possible. If Trump is serious about providing better healthcare he can work on fixing the problems of Obamacare instead of waiting for its collapse only to blame the Democrats. I’m not a optimistic person if i'm being honest about this situation. But for now lets move on to the next legislative battle as the Trump shit show continues.
