Damascus Bombings

Damascus has suffered two major bombings in one week with one occurring against Shia pilgrims killing dozens some even Iraqi nationals from across the border and wounding more than double that number. It happened when a roadside bomb exploded near a bus then a suicide bomber detonated his vest maximizing the damage. And the second one occurred against the Justice Palace building and a popular restaurant killing and wounding many. While Tahrir al-sham has taken responsibility for the first one they haven’t claimed responsibility for the second one, but it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to blame them because recently they have taken credit for all the high profile bombings lately like the suicide bombings in Homs in February. This is something I figured would happen when this new group formed which is still Al-Qaeda just re-branded. Especially after the Syrian army took over Aleppo from the rebels. What this shows is that despite the gains made by Assad backed by the Russians, the country is still in a state of civil war and Damascus might not be a safe space anymore away from the conflict as it once was.
