Some would say that the quality of one’s life is in direct proportion of ones quality of health. Health can be viewed from 5 key points: One’s spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, and professional state of being. For some of us it is our emotional health that truly seems to affect us the most, often times this is associated with the quality of our love life. It’s important to understand that the meaning of love is as subjective as the meaning of life itself and as such can be defined and expressed in various different ways. Love is understood either by nurturing or by nature occurrence but ultimately is identified as being a part of our feelings or a part our objectives.

Feelings vs Objectives

One concept we must try to understand when analyzing anything in existence is the philosophical principle of Yin and Yang, which is also known as polarities. Yin and Yang, feminine and masculine or positive and negative, resides within all things and can even be used as a model for decision making in the form of pros and cons. Feelings are commonly linked to one of these two aspects and take charge in what direction the outcomes may take. For those that choose the Yin approach to love, love can be a feeling that is filled with much pain and anguish, which should always be approached with caution. These types of people feel that when deeply caring for a person and their connection to them that the age old saying of “Loving someone is giving someone the ability to hurt you yet trusting they wont” is a naive concept and as a result they tend to stay guarded. On the other hand for those that choose the Yang approach with love feel as though love is uplifting and filled with joy, as well as one of the greatest thing mankind has to offer one another. Individuals whom share this belief go about seeking and freely sharing their love with all of those that they encounter. Viewed as the hopeless romantics, these types of people feel as though love is a gift deserved by all and take every chance they get to share this belief with the world through the things they do and say.

The human race would not have withstood the test of time if it were not for the act of reproduction, which is commonly achieved through love. In this context love can be viewed as fulfilling a need, which easily allowing us to understand the idea on how love can become an objective. For those whom take the Yin approach to love, love is simply a means to an end for fulfilling reproduction or other socially acceptable standers one was conditioned to believe was needed in life. Fueled by the negative aspects of love these individuals prefer the objective was to love in ordered to avoid the negative elements altogether rather than to embrace even a small amount of the undesired feelings. However, even those who choose to take the yang approach to love may find themselves subconsciously leaning more towards an objective needs fulfillment system. One characteristic of a hopeless romantic is how easily they can find themselves slipping into deprecation for the lack there of receiving the love that they freely give out to others. When faced with these challenges these yang lovers find themselves desperately searching for someone and sometimes anyone that can fulfill the role that they crave. Ultimately these types of people find themselves continuously going through the cycles of mate selection simply just to find a match.

The Balancing Act

Communication is a key ingredient in establishing healthy connections with one another. This golden rule should be the fundamental foundation in which you should try to build upon when first meeting someone. In the “getting to know you” phase of any type of relationship both parties are able to firmly understand what type of person they are dealing with, as well as each others personal goals for themselves in and out of a relationship. Knowing these things allows us to identify the emotional and or objective needs that the other requires. It is said that the life best lived is the one lived in balance between the Yin and Yang aspects of thing, this understanding should also be applied towards ones love life. Knowledge is power and knowing as many details about yourself gives you the power to identify where you stand on important areas of life, which also makes it easier to identify where others stand. Ultimately to have a successful love life one must be aware of both what the heart and the mind desire and fears and never forget “knowing is half the battle in the war of love”.
