In Yemen Seal commandos swooped down on a mountainous region to go after a senior AQAP leader and the results were mixed with AQAP fighters and civilians being both killed and wounded. Sadly, there are also reports that Anwar al-awlaki’s 8 year old daughter was killed as well. Now, just in case you don’t know who he is, Anwar was a senior Al-Qaeda propagandist who was eliminated in 2011 in a drone strike. Also tragically a seal team member was killed and a couple more wounded along with a helicopter being disabled and destroyed after it was downed. This is the first known counter-terrorism mission from the Trump Administration. According to sources, AQAP emir Qassem Al-Rimi was targeted in the strike and he’s the leader of the group. But more importantly, info was seized from the raid including computers and things of the sort along with a old video that was taken down from the Central Command website after it was acknowledged that it couldn't be used as fresh Intel to show mission success. Anytime innocent people are caught up in these strikes and missions, it’s never good and unfortunate. Anytime they are conducted, people like that 8 year old girl should be taken into consideration but with that being said; no tears should be shed for taken down Al-Qaida fighters and just for more info on the group being targeted. AQAP or Al-Qaida in the Arabian peninsula is the Al-Qaida affiliate in Yemen and most of these strikes are drone related. But to have a commando raid comes from the highest command in the government which is the executive and means there was Intel to suggest that an important target was in the area.
