Just in case you missed it or forgot, Chelsea Manning will be released on May 17th 2017 after Obama commuted her sentence just before leaving office. Just in case you don’t know who she is, she was an Intel analyst in the army who had access to classified info and released that info to as a whistle-blower because of the lies and cover-ups from the U.S. Government. She released the controversial Baghdad video and data logs from Iraq and Afghanistan along with diplomatic cable releases and was subjected to harsh treatment over it. To the people who want the truth and transparency from the government her release is a cause for celebration and a victory for that cause. She should’ve never been locked up and the bad side about this is, the government hasn’t learned anything and this can and probably will happen again especially taking a look at the situation with Edward Snowden. She will go down in history as a truth speaker, a person who wanted our military to live up to the values we love to espouse so much and someone who wanted justice. Regardless of what President Trump says she is not a traitor but a hero and I will leave you with one of her quotes,
“I understand that my actions violated the law; I regret if my actions hurt anyone or harmed the United States. It was never my intent to hurt anyone. I only wanted to help people. When I chose to disclose classified information, I did so out of a love for my country and a sense of duty to others.”- Chelsea Manning.
