Remember that Al-Qaeda group in Syria called Al-Nursa Front? The one who changed their name to Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham? Yeah here’s the head of that terrorist organization Abu Muhammed Al-Julani. His beginnings began in Iraq during the Iraqi insurgency where he fought with Al-Qaeda against the coalition and was close to Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi the leader of Al-Qaeda In Iraq before his take down in 2006. He's also an alumni of Bucca Camp just like ISIS chief Al-Baghdadi after he was caught during this time. During the Syrian uprising, he was sent by Al-Baghdadi to Syria as the front man for the group to start and head ops there and setup shop which gave rise to the Al-Nursa front. In 2013 a dispute happened between him and Al-Baghdadi after he refused to put his group which had grown to be one of the largest in Syria under the command of ISIS as it broke away from Al-Qaeda. Instead he reaffirmed his allegiance to Al-Qaeda officially becoming the Syrian branch for Al-Qaeda independently. Al-Julani was listed by the US State Department as a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" on the 16th of May 2013. His organization looks to fill the vacuum as ISIS begin to lose ground and influence.
