How a Well Known Newscaster Just Opened the Door for a New King of Primetime FOX News

Anybody who is acquainted with mainstream media (as unpleasant of an acquaintance that may be) knows the name Megyn Kelly. She’s beautiful, fairly intelligent, and can say just what the audience wants to hear. Also according to FOX News, she’s worth $24 Million a year. Now that she’s realized what she got herself into, she’s decided to take a contract with MSNBC for 5/6 of that price. Personal reasons aside, this shows a complete paradigm shift among the big news companies. But with her exit from the 9 P.M. slot, new opportunities arise for the energetic Tucker Carlson.

The Rise of Tucker

Tucker Carlson is no stranger to mainstream media. He has written for several major news outlets, and began his rise to fame on television in 2000, as CNN’s youngest anchor ever, on The Spin Room. Later, he was appointed co-host of Crossfire, a left vs right debate show on CNN, as the right winged host of the show. One of the more memorable moments from that show was a heated interview with Jon Stewart, in which Stewart told Carlson “You’re the same dick that I see on your show”. During his time at CNN, Carlson also hosted a weekly public affairs program on PBS, Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered. From there, Tucker went on to host Tucker on MSNBC, lasting less than three seasons before being canceled due to low ratings. In 2009, Tucker joined Fox News as a contributor, sometimes substituting as host of Hannity during Sean Hannity’s absence. In March 2013, Tucker became the the co-host of the morning program Fox & Friends on the weekend edition of the show, which he still co-hosts to this day. On November 14th 2016, Tucker began hosting his own show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, which debuted as the network’s “most watched telecast of the year in the time slot” at 7 PM.

The Keys to Success

Carlson became well known through the proliferation of memes on his behalf. Seen as a sort of right winged macho man, he’s gained a considerable amount of publicity through YouTube. Many of these videos consist of Tucker debating with a liberal (usually weak) guest, riddled with air horns and close ups of either side's reactions. These videos that showcase Tucker annihilating his guests have made him a bit of a poster boy for the right. With his strong points and overwhelming laughter, it’s fun to watch whether you agree with him or not.

Starting Off Strong

For this first week in his new slot, Tucker has not disappointed. With guests such as Glenn Beck and Tulsi Gabbard, and covering everything from the Obama farewell to fake news, Carlson us keeping relevant while dashing in his flair of aggressive debating it's clear that Tucker Carlson isn't going away anytime soon. Move over Bill O’Reilly!
