Turkish President Erdogan (Left) and Russian President Putin (Right)

Now that we have a good idea of why the assassination occurred, I will give my prediction on what type of effects it may have. There’s a lot of talk from people comparing this to the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria stating it will trigger WW3 but I reject this outcome. People feared Hillary Clinton’s Syria plan of a no-fly zone would get a Russian plane knocked out of the sky and cause WW3 but people forget Turkey did just that and faced no nuclear or invasive attack. Actually, Russia and Turkey relations have bettered since then and on top of that after this recent assassination, they viewed it as an attack on their relationship. So this is a far cry from what happened in 1914 when Austria-Hungary gave Serbia an ultimatum after accusing them of conspiracy. Expect relations between Turkey and Russia to remain steady and relations between Turkey and the U.S. to be rocky considering the fact that Turkey blames U.S. based exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen for the plot. Based on my calculations nothing geopolitically changing will become of this but the fact that the shooter was able to get that close to a Russian ambassador will cause concerns for the Kremlin about the safety and security of their diplomats abroad.
